Family Sues Planned Parenthood for Death of Woman in Botched ...

Planned Parenthood is being sued by the family of a young woman who died during a botched abortion just a few weeks ago.? The story of 24-year old Tonya Reaves is one that is riddled with political implications in the pro-life/pro-choice debate, and has stirred up feelings on both sides of the abortion conversation.

Reaves died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on July 20 after going to the Planned Parenthood clinic on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.? Her mother, Dorsey Johns, told a local CBS station that the abortion was ?carelessly performed,? and that they didn?t monitor her condition during the procedure.

According to CBS, ?The suit further claims the clinic did not do enough to stop Reaves? bleeding, and that staff members failed to adequately warn an on-call doctor about the potentially life-threatening condition.?

The family wants no less than $120,000 in damages, partly to compensate the woman?s one-year old son, Alvin.

Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation issued this statement about the Reaves lawsuit:

?Lack of proper monitoring is a chronic problem in the abortion industry as a whole. Once abortion businesses get the money and kill the baby, they are essentially done with the woman. If she happens to have complications, they blame her,? he said. ?Planned Parenthood and its abortionist need to be held fully accountable for the death of Reaves, because if they hadn?t botched the abortion in the first place or if they had properly monitored her and immediately called 911, Reaves? little boy would still have a mommy today.?

?Reaves experienced a complication during the procedure at the reproductive health clinic,? said Corey Meyer, the family attorney.? He also said that the Reaves family ?is looking to determine whether the actions of Planned Parenthood or Northwestern Memorial contributed to her death.?

Not only was the botched abortion an issue in the death of Tonya Reaves, but there is also an allegation that Planned Parenthood failed to call 911 when they were told to do so. ?There was another emergency involving a fight that a girl had with her mother, which led to significant delay in the amount of time that Planned Parenthood responded to Reaves? situation.

?This new information confirms that Planned Parenthood intentionally ignored instructions given to them earlier in the day by an Emergency Dispatcher and refused to employ the fastest means of getting help for their dying patient,? said Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor for Operation Rescue. ?In addition to waiting five and a half hours to get Reaves to the hospital, the further delay caused by refusing call 911 as instructed could have been the difference between life and death.?

Sony sees little impact from Android legal woes

BERLIN (Reuters) - Sony Mobile , which uses Google Android software for its smartphones, has not seen much impact from patent problems of the software platform.

Last week a U.S. jury decided many of Samsung's Google Android-based phones infringed Apple Inc patents.

"We don't see much impact to our business as yet of today," Sony Mobile Chief Executive Kunimasa Suzuki told Reuters.

Suzuki said he was confident to sell more smartphones in its fiscal year 2012-2013 than 34 million in previous year.

No charges for deaths of terrorism suspects: Justice Department

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An investigation launched in 2008 into the CIA's program of detaining and interrogating captured militants was closed on Thursday with no criminal charges, the Justice Department said.

The interrogators used techniques like "waterboarding," or simulated drowning, which President Barack Obama and human rights advocates say is torture.

In a statement announcing the closing of the last two cases in the lengthy investigation, Attorney General Eric Holder said it "was limited to a determination of whether prosecutable offenses were committed and was not intended to, and does not resolve, broader questions regarding the propriety of the examined conduct."

Current and former CIA officials welcomed the decision. They have maintained that the program, begun after the September 11 al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington, was conducted under guidelines issued by lawyers of the administration of former President George W. Bush.

CIA Director David Petraeus sent a message to agency employees announcing the closing of the case and thanking them for cooperating with the investigation.

Human rights activists criticized the Justice Department decision.

"Attorney General Holder's announcement is disappointing because it's well documented that in the aftermath of 9/11 torture and abuse was widespread and systematic. These cases deserved to be taken more seriously from the outset," said Melina Milazzo of the group Human Rights First.

The inquiry originally was designed to probe the destruction of videotapes of interrogations by CIA personnel. A former official familiar with the tapes' contents said they depicted two suspects - Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri - being subjected to waterboarding.

EXPANDED INVESTIGATION

Three years ago, Holder expanded the probe to include the detention and interrogation of 101 militants alleged to have been held in custody by U.S. authorities in the years after the attacks.

The videotapes portion of the investigation, conducted by John Durham, a Connecticut-based federal prosecutor, was closed in 2010 with no charges brought.

In June of last year, the Justice Department announced that only two of the 101 detention and interrogation cases that Holder asked Durham to review would be expanded into full-scale criminal investigations.

These investigations, government sources said, related to the deaths in CIA custody of one prisoner in Afghanistan and another in Iraq.

The Afghan detainee, Gul Rahman, died in 2002 while being held at a secret CIA facility known as the "Salt Pit."

The Iraqi detainee, Manadel al-Jamadi, died in 2003 while in CIA custody at Iraq's notorious Abu Ghraib prison. He allegedly had been beaten by U.S. Navy SEALs.

People familiar with the investigation said that because the deaths occurred so long ago, there would have been legal and evidentiary problems pursuing any prosecutions.

A U.S. official said the CIA or Pentagon could still pursue disciplinary proceedings against personnel who may have been involved in alleged abuses.

In November last year, Obama, commenting on a Republican presidential candidates' debate in which Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and businessman Herman Cain backed the use of waterboarding, said: "They're wrong. Waterboarding is torture."

CamTime Adds a Customizable Timer to the Default iPhone Camera [Jailbreak]

CamTime Adds a Customizable Timer to the Default iPhone CameraiOS (Jailbreak): One of the odd missing features in the stock iPhone camera app is a countdown timer for pictures. CamTime is a simple little tweak that adds a fully customizable timer to the default camera.

A lot of third party camera apps add a timer, including our favorite, Camera+, but if you don't like using a third party camera, or you just like the default one, CamTime's timer function works great. The nice thing about CamTime is that you can set the duration for as long as you want so you can get the perfect picture, and it also work for video mode. CamTime is a free download from the BigBoss Repository in Cydia.

Working moms spend less time daily on kids' diet, exercise

ScienceDaily (Aug. 27, 2012) ? When it comes to cooking, grocery shopping and playing with children, American moms with full-time jobs spend roughly three-and-half fewer hours per day on these and other chores related to their children's diet and exercise compared to stay-at-home and unemployed mothers, reports a new paper by a Cornell University health economist.

Male partners do little to make up the deficit: Employed fathers devote just 13 minutes daily to such activities and non-working fathers contribute 41 minutes, finds the study, which will be printed in the December issue of Economics and Human Biology.

The findings are consistent across socio-economic lines measured by the mothers' education, family income, race and ethnicity.

To make up for this time deficit, working mothers are significantly more likely to spend time purchasing prepared foods -- takeout from restaurants or prepackaged, ready-to-eat meals from grocery stores -- which are generally less nutritious than home-cooked meals.

"It's inaccurate to pin rising childhood obesity rates on women, given that husbands pick up so little of the slack," cautioned lead author John Cawley, professor of policy analysis and management and of economics at Cornell's College of Human Ecology.

The study does not prove that employment alone drives the way mothers spends their time. "For example, mothers who choose to work might be those who enjoy cooking less and who would cook less whether working or not," Cawley said.

He added that working mothers produce additional benefits for children such as more money to provide for family needs.

"It's important to remember that we can take steps to enhance childhood nutrition and physical activity without advocating that women exit the workforce," Cawley said. For instance, the authors argue, parents should be better educated about the nutritional content of restaurant and prepackaged foods. "In order to make more informed decisions, consumers need to have nutrition and calorie information available where they buy their food," said Cawley, who noted that federal health care reform rules will soon require chain and fast-food restaurants nationwide to post calorie counts of the foods they sell.

Cawley noted that schools shoulder a greater burden for supporting healthy lifestyles.

"Our findings underscore the importance of schools offering high-quality foods and physical education classes," he said. "In general, the Institute of Medicine and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are urging comprehensive changes in school environments to promote healthy eating and active living."

The research was funded by the Cornell University College of Human Ecology's Institute for Health Economics, Health Behaviors and Disparities and by the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

Inside DARPA's 'Plan X' for cyberwar

2 hrs.

On Sept.?27, DARPA will hold a workshop to flesh out the government cyberwar strategy called ?Plan X.? The one-day workshop consists of a general access session for government employees and contractors, along with a Secret-clearance and above closed session to draw a roadmap for the future of America's cyberwar forces.?

While the next great virus won't be proposed at the Plan X workshop, the Defense Department's cyberarmy infrastructure development plans (and the sweet government contracts that go with it) will. According to the Washington Post's Ellen Nakashima, Plan X has received $110 million in funding for the next five years.

A publicly available DARPA document (PDF) says that Plan X will ?create revolutionary technologies for understanding, planning, and managing cyberwarfare in real-time, large-scale, and dynamic network environments? and ?conduct novel research into the nature of cyberwarfare and support development of fundamental strategies and tactics needed to dominate the cyber battlespace.??

In other words, Plan X will give Pentagon cybergeeks top-notch tools and research capabilities for the high-tech worms, malware, monitoring equipment, and network infrastructure hijinx that are an integral part of military capability circa 2012. DARPA, however, explicitly stated that Plan X will not fund research and development for the development of cyberweapons or vulnerability analysis.

Plan X will develop a series of futuristic tools for the Pentagon to use in cyberwar. DARPA is especially interested in the development of custom, secure operating systems and platforms for use in ?hostile network environments.? According to the document, these secure operating systems are a priority for use in battle damage monitoring, communication relays, weapon deployment, and adaptive defense. While the agency explicitly stated Plan X will not fund R&D for cyberweapons, another area of development is script development for cyberwarfare efforts, which will effectively partially automate cyberwar exercises. DARPA likens these mission scripts, which will be overseen by human operators, to the ?auto-pilot function on modern aircraft.?

The most interesting idea, however, is building giant visual maps for cyberwar. DARPA is seeking assistance in developing visual, intuitive views of large-scale cyber battlespaces for situational awareness in war games. It sounds like, if Plan X works successfully, the Pentagon will have a sweet real-time visual map of large swaths of the Internet within a decade.

"The fascinating aspect of DARPA is that it's a small, agile, forward-thinking arm of the Department of Defense that is driven by projects with relative short timelines. Their mission of researching emerging technologies for military use is a perfect match for the Defense Department's concerted efforts to better protect the nation in the cyber world," says Josh Pauli, an academic at Dakota State University specializing in cybersecurity.

DARPA is seeking a systems architecture team to oversee development for Plan X. At the workshop, to be held in Virginia, participants will be briefed on Plan X, shown prototypes of Plan X technologies, and DARPA will hold teaming opportunities for government and contractor employees. The press and general public are barred from attending.

Planning Your Last Will And Testament | Praktikak

Ready to start thinking about your Last Will and Testament but don?t know where to start?

Choosing an attorney

Find a lawyer with related areas of expertise, like estate planning and taxation law.

And check with local the Bar Association to see if the attorney has had any disciplinary actions taken against him or her.

A Living Will is as Necessary as a Last Will and Testament

Tell family members, your lawyer and your doctor where your Living Will is located and what it says.

When you enter a long term care facility, give your Living Will to the director to make sure they will honor it. And make sure all your friends and relatives, know about it too in which case they will help carry out your wishes.

Make sure your Last Will and Testament is up to date as well as your Living Will. Don?t do your Living Will and Testament yourself. Office supply stores and the Internet sell computer programs that create Wills and power of attorney forms, but these often gloss over the intricacies of tax laws. You may save money on legal fees up front, but you can put yourself in a disastrous situation down the road.

Power of Attorney

A power of attorney is a most important document. A power of attorney appoints someone to take care of your finances when you are too incapacitated to handle them yourself. This document has various clauses that can help to protect your assets if you, your spouse or your parent needs to go into a nursing home. But many things require rearranging ? sometimes with gifts, sometimes by setting up financial vehicles, sometimes through purchases. But nothing can be done if you?re incompetent to deal with your finances and nobody else has authority to deal with your finances either.

A Power of Attorney For Your Last Will And Testament Can Expire

Make sure your power of attorney is up to date. Remeber you are giving the power to enforce your Living Will as well as your Last Will and Testament if necessary.

Last Will And Testament

Consider building in compensation for extra special care. People often leave their assets to their children in equal shares, but many times one child is especially involved while others are less attentive. If one child is giving you care directly, probably in their home, you may want to consider giving them more.

Make sure your Will is up to date. Laws change and your Last Will and Testament is your last chance to see wishes and bequests carried out.

Hobbled Wozniacki says she'll be ready for US Open

Caroline Wozniacki retired from her semi-final match against Maria Kirilenko at the New Haven Open, with a knee injury ending her bid for a fifth straight title in the US Open tune-up.

Wozniacki hurt her right knee in a quarter-final victory over Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova on Thursday.

She had lost the first set to Kirilenko 7-5 when she called for the trainer.

"It's definitely not the way I would have liked to have finished," said Wozniacki, who was trying to join Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf and Chris Evert as the only players to win five straight titles at the same WTA event.

"You know, it's unfortunate," the Dane said. "But these things happen.

"It was a difficult decision to stop."

Wozniacki said she opted to play after doctors told her she probably wouldn't make the injury worse. But it troubled her in the first set and she decided to rest her leg for a couple of days in a bid to be ready for the US Open starting on Monday.

Wozniacki suffered her first match defeat at New Haven, where she was the four-time defending champion.

"Unfortunately my run for a 5th straight title here in New Haven came to an end," Wozniacki said on Twitter. "Had to retire because of a knee injury.

"Some treatment and ice and I should be all good for the open next week!"

In Saturday's final, Kirilenko will face second-seeded Czech Petra Kvitova, who defeated fourth-seeded Sara Errani, 6-1, 6-3.

Kvitova, who claimed her first title of 2012 with a victory over China's Li Na at Montreal on August 12, had already secured the top spot in the US Open Series standings thanks to her performance in the series events leading up to the final Grand Slam of the season.

That gives the former Wimbledon champion a chance to claim a $1 million bonus with a victory at Flushing Meadows.

Real Estate Planning Elder Law Guide | Law

The first step in an elder law trusts and estates matter is usually to gain an understanding of the consumer?s family dynamics. If there are little ones, which is usually the case, we need to determine whether they are married. Is it a primary or second marriage? Do they have any children at a previous marriage or do their couples? What kind of work do many people do, and where do they dwell? Do they get along with 1 another and with the parent clients? We are looking to determine which family members are rarely getting along with which others and what exactly why may be. This goes a ways toward helping us decide who really should make medical decisions and who really should handle legal and financial affairs.

Your second step in an elder law trusts and estates matter is usually to review any prior estate planning documents your customer may have, such as a will probably, trust, power of attorney, health health care proxy and living will, to determine whether or not they are legally sufficient and reflect the client?s current wishes or whether or not they are outdated.

BoSox send Gonzalez, Beckett, Crawford to Dodgers

BOSTON (AP) ? The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, pitcher Josh Beckett and injured outfielder Carl Crawford from Boston on Saturday, hoping to boost their playoff hopes by taking on the underperforming and high-priced stars who failed to thrive in a fractious Red Sox clubhouse.

Boston also sent infielder Nick Punto and about $11 million in cash to Los Angeles in the nine-player trade that was the biggest in Dodgers history. The Red Sox acquired first baseman James Loney, pitcher Allen Webster, infielder Ivan DeJesus Jr. and two players to be named.

"They're in a pennant race and have an opportunity to add talent and were focused on that," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said. "It'll be our job to take advantage of this opportunity and build the next big Red Sox team."

Under a rich new ownership group that includes NBA star Magic Johnson, the Dodgers entered the day three games behind San Francisco for the NL West lead and in the midst of the wild-card race.

"We understand that you have to spend money to be good in this league," Johnson said.

The Dodgers have dramatically revamped their roster in the last month with trades, acquiring shortstop Hanley Ramirez, outfielder Shane Victorino, starter Joe Blanton and reliever Brandon League and now the three active Red Sox players ? Crawford is recovering from surgery ? less than a week before the Aug. 31 deadline for players to be eligible for the postseason.

"Just from pure emotion, it's exciting to see this ownership group pulling off something like this and really making a push to do what they said ? which is making this place a winner and making this team the best it can possible be," Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier said.

Said team president Stan Kasten: "When we came in, we made it clear that we want to build the Dodgers back to what they once were."

For the Red Sox, who entered the night 13? games back in the AL East, the trade signaled a concession for 2012 and a chance to rebuild without hefty contracts given during an undisciplined foray into free agency that, Cherington conceded, has not worked out.

Even with $11 million going to the Dodgers, according to a baseball official with knowledge of the deal, Boston will save more than $250 million in salary from now through 2018.

"To build the team we need and the fans deserve and we want required more of a bold move," Cherington said. "It was a difficult thing to do to trade away four players like this. Beckett, in particular has been here a long time and been here for some of our best times in some of our biggest games."

But Beckett, who was a key part of the team that won the 2007 World Series, was also the ringleader in last year's collapse, when the ballclub went 7-20 in September and missed a playoff spot on the final day of the season. Reports of players drinking beer and eating fried chicken in the clubhouse during games surfaced afterward, and Beckett's haughty demeanor ? and rising ERA ? continued to alienate fans.

The 2003 World Series MVP with the Florida Marlins, Beckett now moves from the home of Dunkin' Donuts to the land of In-N-Out Burger, bringing with him a pair of other players who were not productive enough to justify their contracts. Beckett was due $31.5 million over the next two years; Gonzalez has $127 million coming through 2018; Crawford is due $102.5 million over the next five seasons.

Both Cherington, who replaced Theo Epstein after the September collapse, and manager Bobby Valentine, who was brought in to replace Terry Francona, defended their departing players.

"The bottom line is we haven't won enough games. That goes back to last September," Cherington said. "We just haven't performed on the field. As a team we haven't performed. We've had individuals perform. This is not about the four players we gave up ? anything particularly they did wrong. We just didn't perform as a team."

Players traded in August have to first pass through waivers. Other teams had a chance to claim Gonzalez, Beckett and Crawford before the Dodgers, but their high price tags were likely a deterrent.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said it was surprising to hear of such a big trade.

"You're not used to seeing that many big names go in one trade. A bunch of All-Stars, guys who have been in World Series and played at a very high level," he said.

Red Sox players said before Saturday night's game against Kansas City that they were surprised to see their longtime teammates gone in a deal that came together quickly. Valentine said the speed of the deal left him little time to think about how it affected the rest of the season and beyond, though he was not as willing as Cherington to talk about 2013 as if the 2012 season was over.

Gonzalez, Beckett and Crawford in the Fenway Park clubhouse had already been cleared out Saturday afternoon. Boston pitcher John Lackey had already claimed Beckett's locker and the others' were left with generic nameplates.

Gonzalez, a former San Diego Padres star, said on Twitter in English and Spanish that he was excited to get back to California. Beckett joined the social media site to thank Red Sox fans, and Punto posted a picture of the three of them on what appears to be a private jet with the caption, "dodgers doing it first class!"

The 32-year-old Beckett is 5-11 with a 5.23 ERA in 21 starts this season. A three-time All-Star, he is 130-92 lifetime with a 3.93 ERA.

Gonzalez, 30, is a four-time All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove winner. He hit .300 with 15 home runs and 86 RBIs this season, his second since being traded by San Diego to Boston.

Crawford, at 31, hit .282 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 31 games this season. He had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow this week and is expected to take six to nine months to recover. Crawford was a four-time All-Star with Tampa Bay before signing with Boston.

The 34-year-old Punto hit .200 with one homer and 10 RBIs as a backup.

Loney hit .254 with four homers and 33 RBIs for the Dodgers this season. At 28, he'd spent his whole career in Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old DeJesus was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. He hit .273 in 23 games for the Dodgers this year. Webster, a 22-year-old right-hander, was 6-8 with a 3.55 ERA at Double-A Chattanooga.

The Red Sox and Dodgers haven't made a lot of deals over the years. Perhaps the most notable came in the summer of 1939 when Boston sent a minor leaguer to Brooklyn ? he was future Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese.

Texas Rangers 10, Minnesota Twins 6

Rangers ride huge offensive surge late to win first of four game series.

? The Texas Rangers surged to a late lead and held on Thursday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, defeating the Minnesota Twins 10-6. The win improved Texas to 73-51, six games ahead of the Oakland A's for first place in the AL West. Minnesota fell to 51-73.

The Twins came up woefully short Thursday

With the score tied at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Texas pounded out six runs to take control of the game. Adrian Beltre started the rally with a one-out double, then Nelson Cruz reached first on a Twins fielding error. Mitch Moreland responded with a double to drive in Beltre, and David Murphy was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Unfortunately for a Twins team dead-last in the American League, things took a turn for the worse at that point. First shortstop Pedro Florimon misplayed Geovany Soto's hit allowing Cruz to score, then Ian Kinsler drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to make it 7-4. Elvis Andrus singled in Murphy for another run, then Josh Hamilton hit a two-run single to center that scored Soto and Kinsler and made a tight 4-4 duel into a 10-4 blowout. Beltre ended the inning he started with a groundout to third.

The Twins scored two runs in the top of the ninth on Andrus' two-out, bases-loaded throwing error, but the game had already been decided by that point.

Hamilton finished with five RBIs on the night, including a two-run double in the bottom of the first and a sacrifice fly that scored Kinsler in the fifth. Beltre drove in the other run, also in the fifth, with a solo home run, his fourth home run in the last two games. Hamilton leads the majors with 107 RBI, two more than Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers.

Rangers starter Roy Oswalt was subpar, allowing four runs on seven hits over five-plus innings. The decision was given to Mike Adams, who pitched a scoreless eighth, while Joe Nathan, who got the final out, was credited with his 25th save. Twins reliever Jared Burton, who gave up six runs --five unearned-- in that eighth inning blitz was given the loss.

India faces Twitter backlash over Internet clampdown

12 hrs.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - The Indian government faced an angry backlash from Twitter users on Thursday after ordering Internet service providers to block about 20 accounts that officials said had spread scare-mongering material that threatened national security.?

The backlash came as New Delhi turned up the heat on Twitter, threatening "appropriate and suitable action" if it failed to remove the accounts as soon as possible. Several Indian newspapers said this could mean a total ban on access to Twitter in India but government officials would not confirm to Reuters that such a drastic step was being considered.?

There was no immediate response from Twitter, which does not have an office in India. There are about 16 million Twitter users in the South Asian country.?

Also read:?India cracks down on Internet after communal violence

The government has found itself on the defensive this week over what critics see as a clumsy clampdown on social media websites ? including Google, YouTube and Facebook ? that has raised questions about freedom of information in the world's largest democracy.

"Dear GOI (Government of India), Keep your Hands Off My Internet. Else face protest" tweeted one user, @Old_Monk60.

India blocked access to more than 300 Web pages after threatening mobile phone text messages and doctored website images fuelled rumors that Muslims, a large minority in the predominantly Hindu country, were planning revenge attacks for violence in the northeastern state of Assam, where 80 people have been killed and 300,000 have been displaced since July.?

Fearing for their lives, tens of thousands of migrants fled Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities last week. The exodus highlighted underlying tensions in a country with a history of ethnic and religious violence.

According to documents obtained by Reuters, the government has targeted Indian journalists, Britain's Daily Telegraph, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Al Jazeera television in its clampdown on Internet postings it says could inflame communal tensions.?

The directives to Internet service providers listed dozens of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter pages. A random sampling of the YouTube postings revealed genuine news footage spliced together with fear-mongering propaganda.?

Indian journalists targeted?
The government says Google and Facebook have largely cooperated while Twitter has been much slower to respond.?

"Every company, whether it's an entertainment company, or a construction company, or a social media company, has to operate within the laws of the given country," said Sachin Pilot, minister of state in the Ministry of Communications.?

Twitter has been instructed to remove 28 pages containing "objectionable content", an interior ministry official said.?

"If they do not remove the pages, the Indian government will take appropriate and suitable action," he added.?

The government has ordered Internet service providers to block the Twitter accounts of veteran journalist Kanchan Gupta and television anchor Shiv Aroor. Some appeared to have begun complying with the order on Thursday as Twitter users reported difficulties in accessing their pages.?

"It is a political decision, because of my criticism of the government," said Gupta, who was an official in the previous government led by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party.?

The government's actions triggered a storm of criticism from Twitter users, with the hashtags #Emergency2012 and #GOIBlocks among the top trending topics on Twitter in India on Thursday. Some compared the situation with the state of emergency imposed by the government in 1975, when some journalists were jailed.?

The Centre for Internet and Society, which analyzed the 300 banning orders, found that they contained "numerous mistakes and inconsistencies". Some of the banned websites belonged to people trying to debunk the rumors, for example, it said.?

"This isn't about political censorship. This is about the government not knowing how to do online regulation properly," said CIS program manager Pranesh Prakash.?

India's parliament last year passed a law that obliges Internet companies to remove a range of objectionable content when requested to do so, a move criticized at the time by rights groups and social media companies.?

Rome not responsible for priests

22 August 2012

The US District Court in Portland, Oregon, has cleared the Vatican of any responsibility for a priest who was pronounced guilty of acts of paedophilia in Chicago and Portland during the 1960s.

Judge Michael Mosman ruled that the Holy See could not be considered an "employer" of the late Fr Andrew Ronan and consequently cannot be held responsible in civil proceedings for sexual abuse committed by priests.

Lawyer Jeff Anderson, who represents a number of sexual abuse victims, announced that there will be an appeal which the Holy See's lawyer, Jeffrey Lena, described as "very hard to win".

Anderson said he would appeal against the dismissal of the case on behalf of the now 60-year-old victim who brought the case.

A Tablet Rollercoaster Ride: Archos Unskinned, Galaxy Stylus Sinks

The life of the tablet manufacturer is full of ups and downs, and right now, it?s Archos? and Samsung?s turn on the rollercoaster.

Archos has unveiled the lineup of its latest line of Android tablets, Gen10 XS. First up for release will be the Archos 101 XS. Priced at $399, it will hit the shelves in Europe in September and will reach North America in November.

The 10-inch tablet weighs in at 21 ounces and is 0.3 inches thick. The device runs on an unskinned version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich and is Google-certified.? The Archos teams hopes that, by not adding layers, OS updates will be made easier later down the line. The 101 XS features will include a wide array of Google products, 5 GB free cloud storage, preinstalled OfficeSuite Pro 6 as well as a detachable magnetic covers that doubles as a keyboard and kickstand.

Though this last feature will be a benefit for those who write a lot on their tablets and aren?t a fan of the touch-screen keyboards, it?s not exactly a homerun. The set-up is extremely compressed, and the keyboard and tablet fall apart when moved if both are not sufficiently supported.

Archos has a little while for adjustments before the device is released if necessary. Moreover, it?s got 8-inch and 9.7-inch devices on the horizon for later this year.

Also in the 10.1-inch realm, the Galaxy Note 10.1 has received a big blow with the results of a poll of tablet owners regarding the inclusion of a stylus in its design. CuponCodes4u.com polled 2,000 tablet owners ages 21 to 35, 53% of which responded that they would not purchase a tablet with a stylus. Of those polled, 67% deemed the stylus completely unnecessary, 31% said it made the tablet look outdated, and 22% reported concerns that they would simply lose the device. Ouch.

Getting Back Your Boyfriend - How It's Done

Getting Back Your Boyfriend - How It\'s Done

Unless you have successfully mastered the art of time travel, it's safe to say at this point that your breakup actually happened. It may be hard to take, but facing reality and accepting the fact that it took place is the first step towards getting back your ex-boyfriend. It's probably the only thought on your mind, and it's understandable. Breakups are a difficult, heart wrenching process and it's normal to want them to go away.

The breakup isn't going to disappear on its own. Now is the opportune moment to make some careful and decisive actions to get back to the place you want to be. You want to get back your ex boyfriend, but conflicting advice is everywhere. How do you know which direction to go? How do you know if it will work? The best advice is simply to weigh out the possibilities and come up with a course of action that does not rely on impulsivity or hasty decisions. You need to know which methods work and which don't. More importantly, you need to realize that although your situation is unique, it's not uncommon. Finding the right solution can practically guarantee better results than just waiting for something to happen on its own.

First Steps Following Your Breakup

It's abundantly clear to you in the hours and days following your breakup that something needs to be done if you want a chance to get back your ex boyfriend. But what can you do? What are your options and which ones have a shot at working out in your favor? While you're trying to think rationally, your mind is moving at a million miles a minute and your imagination is probably running away with you. You're thinking of every possible thing that could be entertaining your ex while you're stuck at home watching Romance movies. One of the keys to your success is to control those runaway thoughts and start coming up with an immediate plan of action.

It can seem nearly impossible to separate your emotions from your actions but it must be done. As your brain continues to spin out of control, it becomes tempting to lunge in a direction - any direction - as long as it puts you near your ex again. It's a mistake that a lot of women in your position make. You need to think outside of the box now and make sure that anything you do is going to work in your favor and not put you in a worse position than you're already in.

Before you send that text or place that call to our ex-boyfriend, realize that timing is everything. Being patient can go a long way towards a successful reunion even though every instinct may tell you otherwise. If you try to throw yourself in his direction right now, he's going to shove back - and that will move the two of you even farther apart. You don't want to get up in his face right now. The best thing you can do is to give him some time to unwind. He needs to respond to your attempts positively and pushing him too soon will cause the opposite result.

Don't mistakenly think that this process has to drag on indefinitely - that's not necessarily true. If you're wondering if you can take positive steps forward without having to put everything else on hold, the answer is yes.

The first thing you need to do is reverse the way he saw you during the breakup. If you cried or argued or tried to force a change of mind, you gave him exactly what he wanted. He knows that you're not over him and he knows that you're not ready to face life without him. Right now he feels like he's on top of the world. He has the freedom and the time he wanted to try and see what else is out there - and he also has an ex-girlfriend who's dying to get him back. He feels confident and desirable and you're playing right into his ego. Before you take any other action, stop playing his game and giving him what he wants from you the most - security.

How to Make Him Interested All Over Again

When you first started dating your ex-boyfriend, he couldn't get enough of you. Everything was fresh and new and each day led to a new discovery. In order to regain that feeling two things need to happen. Before reconciliation is even going to enter his mind, he has to realize that he misses you. What you need to remember as a vital part of this process is that you don't miss people that you see every day - you miss people who are absent. That means that you have to go away.

Breakups are rarely, if ever, a mutual decision, but you can give your ex-boyfriend the impression that you're totally fine with his decision now - even after the fact. You can accomplish this easily be stopping any means of pursuing him. As much as he may say differently, your attempts to win him over were boosting his ego. Once you stop, he's going to start realizing that things have changed. You want him to start realizing that he may have blown his chance with you and as soon as that happens, he's going to start wanting the very thing he gave up all over again, getting him back after that is simple.

No matter what he's told you, he's been paying attention to you since he left. He's been avoiding you, yes, but that doesn't mean that he hasn't been interested. Once you stop pursuing him, he's going to be wondering where you went. That's when things are going to take a completely different direction - one that's going to play out in your favor.

Your ex-boyfriend probably wasn't as certain of his decision to leave the relationship as he led you to believe. Now all of his uncertainties are going to come crashing to the surface in a way that is impossible for him to ignore. Once those doubts start, he's going to need to do something. He's not going to be okay with the idea that he's losing you for good. He's going to have to do something to keep you around and he's going to have to do it quickly.

Realize His Feelings are Still Present

It's silly to think that your ex-boyfriend doesn't still feel a connection to you. Emotional bonds are established and strengthened over time and don't go away just because you broke up. Realizing that those feelings are there is another way to gain an advantage in your present situation.

While your ex may be aware of those feelings on a subconscious level, he may not yet be willing to explore them openly. That's why you can use them to your advantage without letting him know what you're up to. You can start to use the past as a tool here. You two shared a lot of good times together, and if you can bring those memories to light, he can start thinking about your relationship again in a new, renewed light.

Don't waste all of your hard work by throwing yourself at your ex full-force. You don't want to scare him off now that you're so close to getting him back in your life for good. Subtlety is an art form and getting as well-informed as possible gives you every advantage throughout this whole process without portraying you in a negative light.

Your Next Steps

You will need to avoid these break up mistakes at all costs, lots of women are guilty of doing these things without even knowing it and it will ruin their chances of getting their ex boyfriends back. Another key thing for you to explore now is the no contact rule and why it is so powerful when trying to get back your ex boyfriend. Pull it off and he will soon be the one that is chasing you instead.

Your ex boyfriend will probably be exhibiting some key signs he wants you back, be on the look out for those as it will allow you to see if you are heading in the right direction. Good luck!

YouTube Star launches a blockbuster - without a studio

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - YouTube sensation Freddie Wong is out to prove you can release a summer blockbuster without a major studio.

His new feature-length film, "Video Game High School," has been watched more than 40 million times since its release in May.

But Wong didn't debut "VGHS" in a movie theater, nor on YouTube, where he and partner Brandon Laatstch operate a channel, Freddiew, that has more than 3.2 million subscribers.

The film - chopped up into nine 10- to 20-minute pieces - premiered on RocketJump, an ad-supported site that he and Laastch launched with "VGHS" showrunner Matthew Arnold to host content outside of YouTube.

The film is about a world where nerds and their videogames have replaced jocks and sports at the top of the social pyramid. Each new part aired for a week on RocketJump, then moved onto Wong's popular YouTube channel.

Though YouTube eventually made up the majority of its views, RocketJump has still accounted for more than 7 million views to date, with traffic increasing as more people discovered that the newer episodes were debuting on the native site.

"Even at the highest level of YouTube, the money you can get will never fund something like ?VGHS,'" Wong told TheWrap. "We need our own place to exhibit our own content and we need to be able to control that user experience, and have a way to guide viewers through content."

Wong and his partners conceived RocketJump about the same time they were making "VGHS." The goal was to extend their brand and create a better viewing experience for consumers.

While YouTube controls the display and formatting, the Freddiew team and its management company, the Collective Digital Studio, is able to tailor RocketJump to their core audience, mostly gamer fans.

"We can create a more immersive experience on a platform Freddie owns and controls," Dan Weinstein, head of the Collective's digital enterprise, told TheWrap.

That means adding behind-the-scenes footage, podcasts, written descriptions of the clips, a different commenting system - and, potentially, transmedia experiences.

Still, key to the bottom line are the business implications.

Filmmakers posting videos on YouTube must split the revenue with Google's online video behemoth. That places a lower ceiling on the money that can be made from a video.

"We can potentially leverage brands and sponsors more than on YouTube because we control the entire ecosystem," Weinstein said. " was about doing different types of deals that were more immersive and had more flexibility to custom create advertising programs."

To that end, RocketJump also helps on the merchandising side; the site features a store that sells T-shirts, posters and DVDs.

"It's hard to sell merchandise off YouTube," Wong told TheWrap. "When you have a home and create a brand people believe in and want to support, it makes it easier for you to control merchandise and sell it."

"In the traditional film world, box-office revenue is considered more glamorous than other sales, but if there's one thing we can learn from George Lucas - other than don't remake your shit - it's that toys and merchandise are all equal," Arnold told TheWrap. "At the end of the day, a dollar is a dollar."

Laatsch and Arnold said that making "VGHS" from YouTube money alone would have been impossible.

Though "VGHS" production cost about $500,000, much of the funding came from other sources. The Freddiew team launched a Kickstarter campaign, which netted them $273,276.

They also raised money for shoots through sponsors, such as evite.com and Monster, the energy drink company. In return for the organic use of Monster within the series - gamers love their caffeine - Wong could shoot an extended chase scene that otherwise would have been too costly.

Neither they nor the Collective, however, would offer up income figures from the project, because they say the project is still new, and the numbers are still building.

However, they claim it is profitable, and they are already at work on a sequel, which will have a larger budget than the first one. A script is in the works, with production expected to start early next year.

All this seems to bode well for Wong's overall career. Indeed, several mainstream Hollywood producers have praised Wong's work as ready for theaters. And though Wong has previously said he was uninterested in working with film studios or television networks, that attitude seems to be changing.

He now says he would consider it - as long as he doesn't have to give up his intellectual property for the fee of a first-time director.

Meanwhile, expect not just "VGHS" sequels but other long-form programming to find a home on this new hub.

"Movie studios are stuck with sequels because no one gives a hoot about the brand of Warner Bros.; the only studios that have built a brand are Disney and Pixar," Wong told TheWrap.

"If we were Pixar, we need our place to exhibit our own content, to control that user experience, to have a way to guide viewers through the content. We can reach the audience directly now and build our own theaters and have our own distribution."
