(AP) ? They may not like it, but they don't see it going away. About 7 in 10 Americans think President Barack Obama's health care law will go fully into effect with some changes, ranging from minor to major alterations, an Associated Press-GfK poll finds.

Just 12 percent say they expect the Affordable Care Act ? "Obamacare" to dismissive opponents ? to be repealed completely.

The law ? covering 30 million uninsured, requiring virtually every legal U.S. resident to carry health insurance and forbidding insurers from turning away the sick ? remains as divisive as the day it passed more than two years ago. After surviving a Supreme Court challenge in June, its fate will probably be settled by the November election, with Republican Mitt Romney vowing to begin repealing it on Day One and Obama pledging to diligently carry it out.

That's what the candidates say. But the poll found Americans are converging on the idea that the overhaul will be part of their lives in some form, although probably not down to its last clause and comma.

Forty-one percent said they expect it to be fully implemented with minor changes, while 31 percent said they expect to see it take effect with major changes. Only 11 percent said they think it will be implemented as passed.

Americans also prefer that states have a strong say in carrying out the overhaul. The poll found that 63 percent want states to run new health insurance markets called "exchanges." They would open for business in 2014, signing up individuals and small businesses for taxpayer-subsidized private coverage. With many GOP governors still on the sidelines, the federal government may wind up operating the exchanges in half or more of the states, an outcome only 32 percent of Americans want to see, according to the poll.

Finally, the poll found an enduring generation gap, with people 65 and older most likely to oppose the bill and those younger than 45 less likely to be against it.

"People are sort of averaging out the candidates' positions," said Harvard School of Public Health professor Robert Blendon, who tracks polling on health care issues. "The presidential candidates are saying there's a stark choice, but when you ask the voters, they don't believe that the whole bill will be repealed or implemented as it is today in law."

Republicans remain overwhelmingly opposed to the overhaul and in favor of repeal. But only 21 percent said they think that will actually come about.

Romney supporter Toni Gardner, 69, a retired school system nurse from Louisville, Ky., said that until a few weeks ago she was sure her candidate fully supported repeal, as she does.

But then Romney said in an interview there are a number of things he likes in the law that he would put into practice, including making sure that people with pre-existing medical problems can get coverage. The Romney campaign quickly qualified that, but the candidate's statement still resonates.

"If Romney gets in, he'll go with parts of it," Gardner said, "and there are parts of that he won't go with."

Gardner thinks expanding coverage will cost too much and may make it harder to get an appointment with a doctor. Besides, she doesn't believe the government can handle the job. She's covered by Medicare ? a government-run health system ? but says "that wasn't a choice that I had."

At 26, Santa Monica, Calif., web developer Vyki Englert has only bare-bones health insurance coverage. Her parents, a preschool teacher and a self-employed photographer, are uninsured. Englert says she thinks the law will largely go into effect as passed. (Among 18- to 29-year-olds, 60 percent think it will be implemented with only minor changes or none at all.)

Englert says that she supports guaranteeing coverage to people with health problems and that provisions such as broader coverage for birth control will help younger women such as her.

"I kind of see a day-to-day way where this law could benefit me," she said. Englert says the health care law dovetails with a trend toward consumerism in her generation. Older Americans "don't have the context of the young people," she added. "They are looking more at the theoretical impact on the budget and the country."

Overall, the poll found Americans divided on the question of repeal, with neither side able to claim a majority. Forty-nine percent said the health care law should be repealed completely, while 44 percent said it should be implemented as written.

The notion that the law will be implemented with changes, captured in the poll, mirrors a discussion going on behind the scenes in Washington, particularly among some Republicans.

"Whoever wins the election, the (health care law) is going to be modified," Mark McClellan, who ran Medicare under former President George W. Bush, said in a recent interview.

Congressional Republicans say if tax increases are on the table in a budget negotiation with a re-elected Obama next year, changes to the health care law ? including possible delays in implementation ? also must be considered. For now, White House officials refuse to be drawn in on that question.

Some parts of the law already are in effect; its big coverage expansion for the uninsured doesn't come until 2014.

Public opinion about the law itself has barely budged since the summer of 2010, soon after it passed. At the time, 30 percent supported the law. It's now 32 percent. And 40 percent opposed the overhaul. That's now 36 percent.

And misconceptions about the law that reigned two years ago continue to live on, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's widely debunked charge that it would create "death panels" to decide on care for the elderly and disabled. In 2010, 39 percent believed the law would set up committees to review individual medical records and decide who gets care paid for by the government. Forty-one percent currently hold that view, according to the poll.

The poll asked people to say whether 18 different items were in the law or not and to rate how certain they were about their answers. Just 14 percent were right most of the time and sure of it.

Still, knowledge about what the law actually does is growing. More people are aware of provisions that allow adult children to stay on their parents' coverage until age 26, impose insurance mandates on individuals and businesses, and protect those with pre-existing medical conditions.

The poll was conducted Aug. 3-13 and involved interviews with 1,334 randomly chosen adults nationwide. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

The survey was conducted online by GfK using its KnowledgePanel sample, which first chose people for the study using randomly generated telephone numbers and home addresses. Once people were selected to participate, they were interviewed online. Participants without Internet access were provided it for free.

Law School Story | The roots of Blue Yen is a cloud of men and ...

Being attracted to friends of the opposite sex is a burden and can harm relationships, researchers have claimed.

The new study, which reignites the debate over whether men and women can be just friends, found that the majority of people believe that opposite sex friends are actually a burden.

They say the problem is that attraction is common between people in opposite-sex friendships.

When participants were asked to list benefits and drawbacks of having opposite-sex friends, 32 per cent listed feelings of attraction as a cost, while just 6 percent listed these feelings as a benefit.

Women were more likely than men to say attraction was a drawback: 47 percent of women ages 18 to 23 listed attraction as a cost of an opposite-sex friendship, while 22 percent of men said the same.

Opposite-sex friendships may also harm romantic relationships. In the study, 38 percent of women and 25 percent of men ages 27 to 50 said jealousy from their romantic partners was one cost of maintaining an opposite-sex friendship.

In addition, the more attraction that people felt in an opposite-sex friendship, the less satisfied they were with their current romantic relationship, the researchers told MyHealthNewsDaily.

?Our findings implicate attraction in cross-sex friendship as both common and of potential negative consequence for individuals? long-term mateships,? the researchers, from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, write in the August issue of the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships.

In a separate study, 88 college-age men and women came to the laboratory with an opposite-sex friend, and the pairs were surveyed about that particular friendship.

Participants rated their level of attraction toward their friend on a scale of one to nine. On average, men rated their level of attraction toward their female friends as a five, while women rated their level of attraction to their male friends as a four.

Men and women reported about the same level of attraction toward their friends regardless of whether they currently involved in a romantic relationship.

The researchers hypothesized that interacting with a member of the opposite sex instinctually triggers mating strategies that evolved tens of thousands of years ago.

?Mating strategies may influence people?s involvement in cross-sex friendships to begin with, as well as unintentionally color people?s feelings toward members of the opposite sex with whom their conscious intent is platonic,? the researchers said.

However, researchers found that some people did list attraction as a benefit to an opposite-sex friendship.

?Perhaps attraction can be both benefit and burden for the same individual in different friendships, or be both benefit and burden for the same friendship at different points in time,? the researchers said.

Tigers shut out Royals, pull into tie with Sox

By NOAH TRISTER

AP Baseball Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 9:30 p.m. ET Sept. 25, 2012

DETROIT (AP) - Anibal Sanchez retired the final batter on a weak grounder, and Detroit players began celebrating around the mound.

Moments later, the home crowd roared a little louder when the AL Central standings were posted on the scoreboard in left field - with the Tigers back in a tie for first.

"We control our own destiny. We've just got to continue to play good baseball," catcher Gerald Laird said. "We don't have to rely on anybody to beat anybody now. It's all on our shoulders."

Sanchez threw his first shutout in over a year, and the Tigers caught the Chicago White Sox atop the division with a 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Detroit had spent only one day in first since the start of August. The Tigers were tied with the White Sox after beating them Sept. 2 - but quickly fell back.

Now it's even again with eight games to play. Even in this season of expanded playoffs, Detroit and Chicago are in an old-fashioned division race with seemingly everything at stake - because a wild card isn't a likely option.

The White Sox lost 4-3 to Cleveland earlier in the day, then Sanchez (4-6) took the mound and retired the first 11 hitters he faced.

The Tigers trailed the White Sox by three games on the morning of Sept. 19, but they've made up the ground and will have a chance to win a second straight division title if they can finish strongly enough.

"Nothing is over, nothing is in," Sanchez said. "We're right there."

Sanchez allowed only three hits. He struck out 10 and walked one. Sanchez threw 105 pitches in his first shutout since Sept. 10, 2011, when he tossed a one-hitter for Florida at Pittsburgh.

Bruce Chen (11-13) gave up RBI singles by Prince Fielder and Delmon Young in the first inning.

Sanchez pounded the strike zone early in his best start since coming over to Detroit from Miami in a July trade. Only one Royals player hit the ball out of the infield until Alex Gordon and Billy Butler broke up the perfect game bid with consecutive singles in the fourth for Kansas City.

Sanchez got out of that jam when Salvador Perez's line drive was snagged by third baseman Miguel Cabrera.

"Sanchez did a real good job," Chen said. "One of those games where you just have to tip your hat."

The Tigers hit six singles in the first two innings, but Chen was able to limit the damage by getting out of a bases-loaded, nobody-out situation in the second. Omar Infante hit a shallow fly, and Cabrera and Fielder both struck out.

Detroit didn't really threaten again until the seventh, when reliever Louis Coleman struck out Young with the bases loaded for the third out.

Chen allowed two runs and 10 hits in 6 2-3 innings.

Sanchez now has six quality starts in his last seven outings. In the third, he stopped Eric Hosmer's comebacker with his bare hand, picked up the ball and threw it hard over to Fielder at first for the out. He made another hard throw to first on Jarrod Dyson's 1-3 groundout in the eighth.

Sanchez said he tries to throw to first like he throws home, since he can be wild when trying to ease up.

"He threw it good. It had a little movement on it, too," Fielder said. "Perfect throw. I just wasn't ready for it."

There was activity in the Detroit bullpen to start the ninth, but Sanchez returned to the mound to a warm ovation from the crowd and retired the side in order.

Cabrera went hitless, ending his 14-game hitting streak.

NOTES: The time of game was 2 hours, 13 minutes. ... The Tigers acquired RHP Greg Ross from Atlanta as the player to be named in an Aug. 31 deal that sent Jeff Baker to the Braves. Ross will be assigned to Class A Lakeland. ... Detroit RHP Rick Porcello (9-12) faces Kansas City RHP Jeremy Guthrie (4-3) on Wednesday night.

Baby boomers getting older, Alzheimer's getting worse

News 12 at 11 / Friday, September 21, 2012

EVANS, Ga.-- The disease already affects more than 5,000,000 Americans, but as the baby boomers are getting older, that number is about to rise.

"We need to get it as a country, because if we don't, our healthcare system is probably not set up to care for all the things that are going to happen to the baby boomers that are going to age," said Alzheimer's Association Development Director Dee Dee Kurilla.

They call it the long goodbye. Alzheimer's is the heartless disease that robs you of your mind, and millions of Americans are suffering through it.

"It's the 6th leading cause of death, and there's no cure," Kurilla said.

More than 200,000 of those affected live in Georgia,14,000 of those living in the 17 counties that make up the Augusta region.

Janeabeth Wells' mother is only 69 years old and is already suffering from Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease.

"She does not recognize me as her daughter or her grandchildren so it's pretty difficult. I think the cruelest thing about Alzheimer's is it actually takes the person away from you while they're still physically here," Wells said.

Janeabeth says care taking for her mother is a 24/7 job.

"When she gets up in the morning, it's kind of like having a toddler at home. She does need constant supervision, constant care, we can't leave her alone any longer," Wells explains.

Just last month 80-year-old Effie Lou Parks, who suffers from Alzheimer's, wandered off from her home in Appling. After eight hours of searching, she was finally returned home.

"We just thank God that she's home, and we just urge everybody if you have an Alzheimer's patient or anything, just keep a good eye on them and just protect them as much as you can," her family said.

Her story has a happy ending, but sadly, for most Alzheimer's patients, that's not the case.

With no cure in sight, Janeabeth says coping is about knowledge--understanding the disease-- and love.

"There's no happy ending at all. The only thing you can do is love them," Wells said.

By 2050, the number of people with Alzheimer's in Georgia is expected to triple to as many as 16 million people.

With depressing figures like that, the Alzheimer's Association is trying to spread some hope and knowledge by raising awareness and helping families understand this devastating disease.

They have a pretty high profile event coming up called the Walk to End Alzheimer's and it's on November 3rd.

It's a two to three mile walk that starts at the Augusta Commons.

It helps raise funds and awareness for the disease, but mostly it's about showing the families they're not alone.

The Girls are Expanding their Meal Options ... - Inspired by Savannah

In addition to the everyday chaos parents of newborns and toddlers must face, one of the biggest, most time-consuming tasks they undertake 3-times each day is making one meal for the baby and another for the rest of the family ? double cooking, double stress, double time. The book is divided by season and provides recipe after recipe for every month from January right through the December holidays. Recipes include:
  • Plum and Fuji Apple Pur?e

My Thoughts:

Trying to get our daughters to eat in our house is a challenge.? For Savannah, who is eating table food now, she has a limited meal plan, which consists of chicken noodle soup, mac and cheese, tomatoes, pickles, cold cuts, and her assortment of snack foods, like fishies and cheese puffs.? God forbid we try and introduce new flavors to her.? When we do, she either turns her head, throws or pushes it away, or will walk away.? As for Arabella, she never took to baby oatmeals and seems to only want to eat what her big sister is eating.? I can't tell you how many times I have had to pull treats out of her mouth, which Savannah had given her when I was looking.? Ah, the joys of babies. :-)

So, to ease mealtime frustration and look for new and easy ways to introduce new meals to the girls, I began searching for books about baby purees and foods both children and adults would enjoy eating.? This is when I stumbled across "Bountiful Baby Pur?es" by Anni Daulter.? What I loved most about this cookbook, and that set it apart from other baby food cookbooks I have picked up is that it offers delicious and easy to prepare recipes that both baby and other family members can enjoy.

My husband and I attempted to eat baby food out of the jar when Savannah was little to show her how tasty it was.? I don't know about you, but I don't know how kids can like this stuff.? My husband and I had tried our hardest not to gag on a few of the foods.? And, thus began our journey with finding ways to get our picky eat to eats foods with substance, and not live off out snack foods.

Since receiving this cookbook last week, I have already tried out over a dozen recipes.? Each of the recipes in the cookbook are simple to make, and I found I had most of the ingredients already on hand.? And, when we returned from picking apples this past weekend, I was able to try out the Apple, Squash and Raisin Pur?e with the girls, and use the left over to make spiced muffins. I filled pouches with this tasty pur?e, and in under 5 minutes, they were both handing my husband and I their empty pouches, and looking for me.? As a treat, my husband and I were able to have muffins all weekend for breakfast.? I couldn't believe how I could use a homemade baby food pur?e to make such moist and delicious muffins.? And, knowing that I was serving my girls healthy foods that they enjoyed eating was the best part of all.??

I can't wait to try out more recipes from this new cookbook by Anni Daulter.? And, hopefully in time our meal times will be less stressful, as the girls will finally eat what we put in front of them. :-) If you struggle with picky eaters like I do, why not pick up a copy of Bountiful Baby Pur?es to try with your little ones?? I couldn't believe how quickly they took to the food I prepared from recipes in this book.

Check out the following recipes from the book to try at home.? I made both and everyone in the house loved them.? Let me know what your family thinks.

Spinach, Pineapple, and Plain Yogurt Pur?e

7+ Months

YIELD: 3 cups (750 G), or 8 to 10 Baby Servings?

2-in-1 option: Green Goddess Ice Pops, Page 55

Spinach is power packed with protein, antioxidants, and essential vitamins. It loses its nutritional?punch after about a week after being picked, so this is a great veggie to grow yourself or source?from your local community-supported agriculture (CSA) group or farmer?s market. No need to?steam this recipe, just pop in all in the blender and hit the pur?e button.

1? cups (45 g) spinach leaves, packed
1 whole pineapple, outside cut off and chopped into chunks

1? cups (345 g) plain yogurt

1. Blend the spinach, pineapple, and yogurt together in a blender until desired consistency?is achieved.

Spiced Apple, Pear, and Raisin Pur?e

8+ Months

YIELD: 3 cups (750 G), or 9 Baby Servings

2-in-1 option: Fruity Bread Pudding, Page 142

This is a lovely spiced-up version of an old classic that even adults will enjoy as a side dish. I love?these flavors together, and if you can get your older kids out on an apple-picking adventure, you?will have the freshest pur?e in town. If not, hit your local farmer?s market to get these seasonal?goodies.

3 Fuji apples, peeled and cubed
3 Bartlett pears, peeled and cubed

1 teaspoon cinnamon

? cup (75 g) raisins

1. Peel, core, and cut the apples and pears into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces.
2. Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples and pears and steam for 8 to 10 minutes, or until soft.
3. Add in the raisins and steam for 2 additional minutes. Reserve the liquid from the steamer.
4. Pur?e the apple, pears, and raisins in a food processor with ? cup (120 ml) of the reserved?liquid. Add more liquid as needed to obtain the desired consistency.

China to resolve conflict with neighbours through negotiation

Posted by XINHUA on September 23, 2012

Xi addresses the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and Forum on China-ASEAN Free Trade/XINHUA

NANNING, Sep 23 ? China has reiterated to resolve difference with neighbours concerning territorial land, territorial sea and maritime rights and interests peacefully through friendly negotiations.

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping made the remarks as he addressed the opening ceremony of the ninth China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and 2012 Forum on China-ASEAN Free Trade Area held in south China?s Nanning City.

?The more progress China makes in development and the closer its links with the region and the world, the more important it is for the country to have a stable regional environment and a peaceful international environment,? Xi said.

The ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

?Having gone through numerous vicissitudes in modern times, we are deeply aware of the importance of development and the preciousness of peace,? Xi said, adding that China will be all the more determined to go for peaceful development, follow the win-win strategy of opening-up, and implement the policy of building friendship and partnerships with neighbouring countries.

Xi said China will always be a staunch force for peace and stability in the region and the world at large.

?We are firm in safeguarding China?s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and are committed to resolving difference with neighbours concerning territorial land, territorial sea and maritime rights and interests peacefully through friendly negotiations,? said the vice president.

?We will never seek hegemony, nor behave in a hegemonic manner,? he said.

?By peaceful development, we mean to develop ourselves by upholding world peace and to uphold world peace through our own development,? he said.

At the opening ceremony, Xi also said the current economic situation in China is ?generally sound.?

Fantasy Football Mailbag: 9/22/2012

Feb 5, 2012; Indianapolis, IN, USA; New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez (81) celebrates with wide receiver Wes Welker (83) after scoring a touchdown during the second half of Super Bowl XLVI against the New York Giants at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

Need help with preparing for your fantasy football league? The Fantasy Guru is here once again to give you a few tips on how to play the crazy game of fantasy football.

Today we have a special Saturday edition of the fantasy mailbag and, to make up for being a day later than usual, I?ll be answering two extra questions this week so we have seven questions to get through. So, let?s get on with it shall we?

Q: Aaron Hernandez is out for the season ? is now the time to go get Wes Welker? ? Jan Young from Minneapolis, Minnesota

A:?The situation in New England has been a difficult one to interpret to date. It appears that the contract issues with Welker may have had some effect on his usage and this follows along with the way the Patriots dealt with Randy Moss in 2011. While the Hernandez injury is a major change, for me the most important issue for Welker?s possible usage is the failure of new weapon Brandon Lloyd to get on the same page as Tom Brady despite his familiarity with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Lloyd has seen a vast majority of targets head his way in the first two weeks but there appears to have been a certain disconnect with Brady as while Lloyd has 13 receptions he has had 21 targets ? a somewhat poor turnover. If it were just the Hernandez injury, I?d be sceptical. With the issues Lloyd is having, this strengthens the case. I think it?s worth trying to get Welker at perhaps 80% of his draft day value.

Q: Cam Newton looked awful on Thursday night. Is there reason for fantasy owners to be concerned? ? Lester Prescott from Little Rock, Arkansas

A:?I was watching and commentating on that game and I honestly think there is reason for worry to an extent. There were a few factors against Cam on the night including the constant rush of the exceptional Giants defensive line but also the way his offensive line seemed to collapse at times with several missed blocking assignments. With that said, I saw a number of poor decisions from Cam as at times it looked like he failed to go through his progressions properly even when he had time to and forced passes that just weren?t there. Add to this the fact that this was a Giants team that had serious issues in the secondary and I think there is plenty to worry about with Cam going forward. I wouldn?t sell just yet but I would advise fantasy owners to keep track of the various reports on how Cam looks in games.

Q: Danny Amendola had a monster game against the Redskins last week. Is he a sell high or buy low? ? Linc Mastrioni from New Brunswick, New Jersey

A:?I saw plenty of this game and I?ll say this ? Danny Amendola looked very good out there but I personally think he was helped a lot by poor pass coverage underneath by Washington. I certainly don?t think he?s a sell high yet simply because his value hasn?t gotten that high but I would also urge caution at making him a buy low as often this thinking can give the impression that paying just a little more is fine. I?d look to pay no more than a WR2 for him at this point ? someone like Lance Moore is a good comp. My other observation would be that the Bengals are the next to take on the Redskins and that I wouldn?t be surprised to see young emerging PPR threat Andrew Hawkins perhaps emulate Amendola?s week 2 production.

Q: I was offered Aaron Rodgers in a 12 team league this week and all I had to give up was MJD and Tony Romo. Am I being a homer or are people panicking too much? ? Michael Williams from Madison, Wisconsin

A:?It?s not a bad price for Rodgers but to be honest I do think it?s a silly trade for the guy giving him up. Even the super studs can have bad starts and I am always amazed at how quickly fantasy owners will turn on proven providers who just a few weeks before they had revered. My advice ? don?t panic and if someone else is panicking then take full advantage.

December 18, 2011; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews (24) runs for a first down during the fourth quarter against the Baltimore Ravens at Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers won 34-14 Mandatory Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

Q: Ryan Mathews is on his way back but you still rank him low. Why? ? Kevin from Venice Beach, California

A:?The answer here is three-fold ? I think he?s still coming back from his injury, I don?t think the Chargers offensive line is at all strong and most importantly I?m not that impressed with the kid as a NFL running back. Does he have talent? Sure. Do I trust that talent to shine through every week? No ? and especially not against an Atlanta defense that has been pretty decent to start this season. Finally, I have a feeling that the Chargers will be playing from behind this week and Norv isn?t afraid to abandon the run ? which may be a decent idea to help keep his ?star? running back healthy.

Q: Michael Crabtree looks like he?s ready to be an NFL receiver. Time to call him a legit fantasy starter? ? April Kimberley Danzig from Hartford, Connecticut

A:?Crabtree is a tough one to judge because we have seen this from him before and then he?s done nothing afterward either due to ill discipline or injury. Word on him is that he?s finally fully healthy and has been getting the reps he needs to develop as a wide receiver. For now, I?ll say he?s a flex play but I would also say the upside is for him to become a genuine fantasy WR1 if he continues to show he has the trust of Alex Smith and delivers quality and consistent production.

Q:?Would you rather have a RB thats fallen off early in the season like Darren McFadden, Jamaal Charles or Chris Johnson or would you prefer an emerging RB like Kevin Smith, Doug Martin, and Trent Richardson? ? Andrew from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

A:?Since the question is fairly broad, I?ll be brief on the individual players before addressing the overall theme. With McFadden and Charles, I have no worries about their production going forward ? yet. Ask me in another three weeks. CJ2K on the other hand is a definite worry ? not only is he not producing but he is blaming his offensive line for his troubles. Yes, the Tennessee o-line has been much worse than expected but the fact that Johnson is failing to take responsibility concerns me. With that said, I still believe in him and think he?ll come back.

As for the lesser names, I have zero faith in Kevin Smith as an option as he will get hurt guaranteed and I also believe Mikel Leshoure is gonna be the man there. In the case of Doug Martin, he has certainly impressed to start the season but that Tampa Bay offense is so flat and I just don?t trust it to continue producing. Finally, Trent Richardson is a superior talent but I wouldn?t call him an emerging fantasy player yet ? he has had only one week of good production ? but I will say that I expect some big weeks with some very bad weeks scattered amongst them.

To the overall question I will say this ? we have had two weeks of games and that is such a miniscule sample size that making a general statement regarding whether to go with failing studs or emerging players is somewhat erroneous. As with the Rodgers question above, I find the whole notion of panicking about the top players to be amazing and quite frankly it?s amateurish. What makes me stop from choosing that side is that it is also true that you don?t want to be the guy who plays it safe by not taking chances on emerging talents as it is often those who take those opportunities who find themselves winning fantasy championships.

???????????????

That?s it for another week. As always you can send in your questions to [email?protected] for next week?s Fantasy Mailbag. Once again, I will be on Twitter @chrissmithsz in the final hour or two prior to Sunday?s 1pm kickoff so be sure to hit me up then with any last minute fantasy questions while also being sure to check my week 3 rankings.

Until next time, this is the Fantasy Guru signing off.

No. 8 West Virginia outlasts Maryland 31-21

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) ? Geno Smith threw three touchdown passes to Tavon Austin and No. 8 West Virginia outlasted Maryland 31-21 on Saturday.

Doug Rigg returned a fumble 51 yards for West Virginia (3-0) and Austin had another remarkable game against his home-state Terrapins. The Baltimore native caught 13 passes for 179 yards and set a school record for career receptions.

Despite scoring two early touchdowns, West Virginia looked flat at times on offense, after averaging 56 points and 612 yards in its first two games against non-BCS conference opponents. Smith often threw into tough coverage and had as many incompletions in the first half (nine) as he did in the first two games combined. He finished 30 of 43 for 338 yards.

The Mountaineers punted on four of their first five possessions of the second half but wouldn't let Maryland cut into a double-digit lead.

Leading rusher Shawne Alston playing sparingly with a thigh bruise and West Virginia was limited to 25 yards on the ground.

Smith spent a lot of time getting knocked on his backside. But he found a groove just before halftime, throwing for 64 yards on a drive capped by a 24-yard pass to Austin alone in the end zone for a 24-14 lead.

Maryland freshman Perry Hills threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns, two to freshman Stefon Diggs.

Hills had some success moving the Maryland offense with misdirection plays and screen passes. Maryland (2-2) had more yards at halftime (212) than it did all of last week in a home loss to Connecticut.

But Hills had little luck after halftime. With Maryland facing fourth-and-21 from its 32 with four minutes left in the game, Hills was intercepted by Wes Tonkery at the West Virginia 28 and the Mountaineers ran out the clock.

The game was billed as a matchup of all-purpose talent, and Austin and Diggs didn't disappoint.

Austin now has 208 career receptions, breaking the mark of 206 set by Jock Sanders from 2007-10. In three games against Maryland, he had 31 catches for 407 yards.

Diggs had a 42-yard scoring catch in the first quarter and a 56-yarder midway through the fourth. He caught three passes for 113 yards and had 63 yards on kick returns and 25 yards on punt returns.

On Maryland's second series of the game, West Virginia linebacker Darwin Cook slipped through the middle of the line unblocked and knocked the ball from Hills. Rigg scooped up the loose ball and went for West Virginia's second defensive touchdown of the season.

It was a role reversal of the key play of January's Orange Bowl, when Rigg forced a fumble that Cook returned for a TD ? and famously knocked over the Orange Bowl mascot ? in a rout of Clemson.

Late in the first quarter, Austin caught a pass up the middle, bounced off a defender and went 44 yards up the right sideline to put the Mountaineers ahead 14-0. Austin added a 24-yard TD catch in the second quarter and capped West Virginia's scoring with a 34-yard reception midway through the fourth.

Tips on Choosing an Email Marketing Software - Business Directory ...

The booming industry of internet marketing has paved the way for email marketing to be known among web entrepreneurs. This is a marketing technique on which email messages (hence the name) are sent to a number of opt-in clients. When done correctly, email marketing could help one reach to a wider audience and earn a considerable amount of profit from site traffic. Email marketing can be done with ease with the use of an email marketing software.

Every year, the demand for email marketing software increases tremendously. Many companies take it as a chance to sell their own version of email marketing software. While the varying choices could be a good thing, this could also stir confusion among entrepreneurs especially when they come to the stage of choosing one.

The following are some of the tips that could help an entrepreneur choose an email marketing software that would suit his/her needs:

1. Assess your needs

The first thing that one should do before shopping for an email marketing software is to identify his/her email marketing needs. These needs are usually affected by the size of the company, the type of content that the person would like to send, and the number of prospects that one would like to get in contact with. Create a list of your needs and shop around for email marketing software that suits your requirements.

The growing list of email marketing software makes it very possible now to find one that suits your needs. In fact, you could chance upon more than one vendor of a software that exactly meets your requirements. It?s just up to you to look for other factors to determine which of them you would settle.

2. Learn to compare

Just because another entrepreneur uses it doesn?t necessarily mean you should too. Remember that each software is unique and they cater to different marketing needs. What works for one might not work for you.

The needs you?ve cited on step #1 are crucial in this stage. Use your list of needs as a guide in shopping for a software. Assess every offer of the vendor, run some comparisons with other software, and learn to read reviews. You could also ask for a list of their past and present clientele and use this to further evaluate the product.

3. Choose a software that gives good value for money

Because each email marketing software has different set of features, they are priced differently from one software to another. Consider their price and check whether it suits your budget and if it does give you good value. Most of the email marketing software in the market is priced according to the number of subscribers you have. You can also try to negotiate the price with the vendor.

Want to find out more about the media autoresponder, then visit Steven Porter?s version of the software. If want you want installation information you can check out media autoresponder software installation page. What?s good about this auto responder is that it?s inexpensive and comes with zero maintenance fees.

Beans, metals fall on worries about China slowdown

More signs of slower economic growth in China are creating worries that the world's second-largest economy may curb its huge appetite for commodities.

HSBC Corp. said Thursday that a preliminary survey of purchasing managers showed China's manufacturing sector continued to slow in September but the pace of the slowdown appeared to be stabilizing.

Separately, financial data company Markit said its purchasing managers' index for the 17 countries that use the euro currency declined more than expected in September. That indicates Europe appears headed for a deepening recession. Europe is China's biggest export market.

China is a huge importer of raw materials such as copper, oil and coal for use in its manufacturing sector. It also has been importing huge quantities of U.S. soybeans to help feed its population. If China's economy continues to slow, traders are worried that demand will drop, analysts said.

Copper for December delivery fell 5.5 cents to finish at $3.759 per pound, October platinum dropped $16.50 to $1,623.90 per ounce and December palladium decreased $11.95 to $661.10 per ounce. December gold fell $1.50 to end at $1,770.20 per ounce and silver rose 9.4 cents to $34.682 per ounce.

November soybeans fell 50.75 cents, or 3 percent, to end at $16.1875 per bushel, its second hefty decline this week. The price dropped 70 cents Wednesday after early reports of crop yields from some states showed a better-than-expected harvest.

Mike Zuzolo, president of Global Commodity Analytics & Consulting LLC, said Thursday's decline occurred because of expectations that soybean demand is going to be "harder and harder to come by as China slows down more and more."

December wheat fell 2 cents to finish at $8.795 per bushel and December corn fell 10.5 cents to $7.46 per bushel.

In energy trading, benchmark oil fell 11 cents to end at $91.87 per barrel, heating oil rose 5.35 cents to $3.0975 per gallon, gasoline increased 7.54 cents to $2.904 per gallon and natural gas ended up 3.5 cents at $2.797 per 1,000 cubic feet.

House bill allows taxpayers to donate to Treasury

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Feel your taxes are too low? House Republicans have devised a new convenient way for those worried about government red ink to donate more to the Treasury.

And in a dig at President Barack Obama and his favorite billionaire, they have named the bill the Buffett Rule Act after investor Warren Buffett, who has said that he and other wealthy people don't pay enough in taxes.

The legislation, approved in the House on Wednesday and heading for an uncertain fate in the Senate, creates a checkbox on tax forms allowing taxpayers to make donations above their normal tax liability for debt reduction.

The original Obama-backed Buffett Rule bill, which failed in the Senate last April, would have required top earners to pay at least 30 percent of their income in taxes.

Obama "has used Warren Buffett as the poster-child for his class warfare scheme because Buffett complains that he doesn't pay enough in taxes," said bill sponsor Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La.

"The Buffett Rule Act is a common sense alternative to President Obama's divisive class warfare calls for higher taxes, and it allows Warren Buffett and others like him to voluntarily donate more of their money to pay down our national debt if that is what they're really interested in doing."

Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan, top Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee, said there was "nothing wrong with this bill except the label." The bill, he said, has "zero to do with the Buffett rule. It has everything to do with the absolute refusal of Republicans to face the basic issue," the level of taxes that the wealthy pay.

The chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., said the bill offered a simple way for people concerned about the debt to contribute. Now, he said, people must either send a separate check or money order to the Bureau of Public Debt or go online to that website and use a credit card.

He cited Joint Committee of Taxation estimates that the bill would reduce the public debt by $135 million over 10 years.

Donations to pay down the national debt are tax deductible under current law.

The IRS already has a checkbox on its income tax form for making a $3 contribution to the presidential election campaign fund.

Vox jams guitar amps into Audio-Technica headphones, dubs them Amphones (ears-on)

VOX jams 'guitar amps' into Audio Technica headphones, dubs them Amphones keep the shredding to your ears for $100

Guitarists and Bassists have many tools at their disposal for practicing fresh news licks without disturbing others around them. One of our favorites is Vox's AmPlug -- a guitar amp-modeling dongle that plugs into your instrument's 1/4-inch jack, allowing you to connect headphones and an MP3 player to practice privately. Building on the idea, Vox worked with Audio-Technica to simply embed the AmPlug in a new line of headphones, dubbing them Amphones. The company quietly put the cans up on its site recently, and it's now officially ready to shout out loud about them.

Guitarists can choose from AC-30 (British crunch), Lead (hi-gain) and Twin (clean) variants, and bassists can snag the Bass version, which is based on Vox's AC100. Just like the AmPlug, each Amphone features volume dials -- sadly, these don't go to 11 -- for setting gain, volume and tone, along with a fourth for a built-in effect (compression for the Bass and reverb with the AC30, for example). A duo of triple AAs power the cans and, as you'd expect, the 'phones have a 3.5mm jack for hooking in external sources as well as a 1/4 adapter to plug into your axe. These Vox-styled units will be available in the US sometime in October for $100 a pop (double the cost of an AmPlug). Hungering for more already? We were able to give a pre-production version of the AC30 model a brief run, and you'll find our initial impressions after the break.

COPYWRITING FOR STARTBLAZE

by Charles Lewis

So ? you?ve joined StartBlaze, recruited a good sized downline, and the hits are rolling in. There?s just one problem though? no sales. Your first reaction was to forget StartBlaze, abandon it with utter disgust, and?

THAT is where you went wrong.

Selling a product or collecting e-mail addresses with StartBlaze is tough stuff if you don?t know the untold secrets of this amazing traffic building program. I receive a 10:1 visitor to subscriber ratio while promoting my weekly newsletter on StartBlaze, and you can too if you follow these simple guidelines?

## KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

In order to write an effective StartBlaze sales letter (or any type of sales letter for that matter), you must first know who you are writing to. What are their ambitions, desires, dislikes, pet peeves, etc, etc.

I view anywhere between 15-20 StartBlaze load pages each day, and here is what I?m seeing on a consistent basis:

- Work at home business opportunities ? Indie music pages
- Kids who just want their home page to be seen.

There are many others I?ve noticed, but were too few and far between to list here.

## SHATTER THEIR PREOCCUPATION

Challenge your visitor with a piercing question or powerful statement. Make them laugh, cry, widen their eyes? Do anything ? just as long as you have an exceptionally large headline, and you get their attention. Use strong colors, and always try to fit the word ?StartBlaze? into the headline. After a bit of testing, I found that when the word StartBlaze was used, my response with the same ad increased by approximately 30%.

NOTE: Learn to write a headline here? http://www.coe-d.com/secret/course/copy00asf4.html

## COPY VS. GRAPHICS

You will create a stronger focus and grab your visitor?s attention much more effectively with graphics. However, when your visitor is only going to view the page for a couple of seconds you need to make a maximum impact in as little time as possible.

It?s okay to use graphics to emphasize certain points in your sales letter, but be sure not to use a graphic headline unless you can reduce it to less than 2k in size. This is possible with image optimization software like Ulead SmartSaver Pro (15 day trial software at http://www.ulead.com/ssp/trial.htm).

## WHERE TO GO AFTER YOUR HEADLINE

** Keep It Short **

Whether you use the AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) or the MAGIC (Magnetize, Attack, Generate Credibility, Interest, Closure) copywriting formula, your sales letter should be short and sweet. It doesn?t matter if you go a little over a page, but try to keep the entire sales letter down to 600 words or less.

** Continue That Thought Of Yours **

Always continue the thought portrayed in your headline. This will suck the visitor into your sales letter like a book-lover would be drawn into a good novel. If you can?t do this for one reason or another, the first line of your sales letter had better grab attention like none other.

** Keep Them Awake **

Use powerful, active verbs and descriptive adjectives to hold your visitor?s attention. For all you know, they are in hurry and only signed on to check their StartBlaze stats.

You must ATTACK their innermost desires. Use the word ?You ? at least ten times more than you use the word ? I ?, and write conversationally ? as if you were speaking directly to your visitor.

** Features = Benefits **

One of the biggest mistakes you can make in your sales letter is to rattle off what your product can do, instead of explaining how each feature will benefit the user.

Let?s say you are selling shoes, for instance. You tell the person that a certain shoe has X2 Hydro-Air, and Super Gel Padding. If you don?t explain that X2 Hyrdo-Air will make you jump higher, and that the Super Gel Padding will cushion your fall and prevent injury, the customer will only be confused.

It may sound like a simple idea, but even the best copywriters often look it over.

** Credentials Come To Mind **

Why are you any more qualified than the next person? How long have you been doing what you do? Who have you worked with or studied under? Did you go to college for this, or is it just a side job?

People will be more subconsciously prepared to make the purchase when they can rationalize the fact that they are buying from an ?expert?. Heck, you can even tell them they are making a good decision to finish it off. Playing with the prospect?s ego in any way will always work without question, and the ?good decision? tactic is one of my favorites.

** Close it up **

At the point of sale, you must make it easy for the visitor to buy from you or give you their e-mail address. If you are selling something, offer an unbeatable guarantee. If you are collecting their e-mail address, give them a darned good reason, and let them know that you won?t be sharing it with anyone else.

## SOME OTHER IDEAS

** Text Ads **

You know those little text ads that are given to you when you sign up for an affiliate program? Post them on a StartBlaze target page, and see how they pull. If they?re well written, you should make a lot of sales.

** Pop-Up Ads **

Pop-up ads are especially effective for promoting a newsletter. When your visitor leaves, that?s it. Take advantage of the situation, and set a pop-up ad. The copy should be only a few lines, and include some powerful benefits.

For instructions on setting a pop-up ad, see http://www.webprozone.com/popup.html

Ferguson adds to calls for sick chants to end

Associated Press Sports

updated 2:12 p.m. ET Sept. 14, 2012

MANCHESTER, England (AP) -The managers of Manchester United and Liverpool are urging their clubs' fans to stop the ugly chants at matches in the wake of the release of findings about the Hillsborough tragedy.

The rivalry between England's two most successful teams often spills over into goading in the stands, with some United fans singing songs about Hillsborough and Liverpool fans taunting their counterparts about the Munich air disaster in 1958 in which eight United players died.

Documents released on Wednesday brought the Hillsborough disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans were killed in a crush at an FA Cup semifinal in 1989, back into public consciousness a little more than a week before United visits its fierce rival for a league match on Sept. 23.

"You would hope that maybe this is a line in the sand in terms of how the supporters behave with one another," United manager Alex Ferguson said Friday. "We are two great clubs and we should understand each others' problems in the past. Certainly the reputation of both clubs doesn't deserve it.

"The fact we are playing them after the findings we have been reading about in the last couple of days does bring a focus to it."

An independent report exonerated Liverpool fans from any blame for the Hillsborough tragedy, condemning instead police and authorities for what happened when too many fans were herded into a section of the stadium, leading to a fatal crush.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers cannot understand how such an incident can be the focus of chanting.

"I speak as a human being and I don't ever like to hear anything like that, whatever club it is, that associates with other people's tragedies and death," Rodgers said. "Unfortunately you have a very small percentage of idiots at any club who will always try to smear another club's reputation.

"Of course, it is obvious these are chants that no one wants to hear about any club. Unfortunately there are that minority of supporters who will maybe disappoint but let's hope we can all move on and we can all learn from this whole process."

Before the Liverpool-United match, there is a derby match between Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea on Saturday during which fans' behavior will be scrutinized.

It will be the first time John Terry, the Chelsea center back, has met Anton Ferdinand in public since being acquitted of racially abusing the QPR defender at a league match last year.

The question of whether Ferdinand and Terry will shake hands as part of the traditional pre-match team ritual has overshadowed the game between the west London rivals, and could spark a reaction among fans during a match that can attract a hostile atmosphere.

Both clubs have released statements on their websites, appealing for fans to show respect at the game and warning that there will be a zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination or abuse.

Under the headline, "Your Behavior: A Reminder," QPR warned that "racial, homophobic or discriminatory abuse, chanting or harassment is strictly forbidden and will result in arrest and/or ejection from the ground, and in addition the club will impose a ban for one or more matches."

In Chelsea's statement, entitled "The Right Rivalry," the European champions say "fans of both clubs recognizing that abuse and discrimination have no place in a football stadium, nor anywhere else in society."
