If you and your family are bored with going on the same type of holiday each year, go somewhere a little more interesting next time around. And remember, if you plan on leaving the country, be sure you have all of the holiday insurance and travel insurance you may need to cover your trip. The following places are all guaranteed to keep your whole gang interested and entertained on holiday, so if you haven?t visited them all yet, consider making it there on your holiday this year.
Flinders Ranges (South Australia)
South Australia is home to one of the world?s most interesting areas ? the incredible Flinders Ranges. This area is often called the ?Gateway to the Outback?, and the red sand and rock of the landscape makes it look like an entirely different planet. There is no shortage of wonderful hikes to get a closer look at the area, and this is where you are sure to see some of the myriad plants, birds and wildlife that make this such a special part of the country.
Apart from the emus, goannas and vibrant landscapes, the Flinders Ranges is also home to some of the world?s oldest known evidence of human existence, in the form of some stunning and powerful Aboriginal rock art, much of which is tens of thousands of years old. For an all-round interesting place to have a fun family holiday, you will have a hard time finding a better spot than the Flinders Ranges.
Tasman Peninsula (Tasmania)
Australia definitely has an interesting, colourful and at times brutal history, and nowhere can you get a better look at it all than in Tasmania. A little island off the southern tip of mainland Australia, Tasmania is staggeringly beautiful, and was a central part of the early history of convict Australia.
The Tasman Peninsula is a fantastic place to bring the family for an interesting holiday, as you will be able to take in the beauty of a rugged coastline, and enjoy some fantastic wildlife viewing while also spending time in a part of the world with an extremely dramatic history. You can visit the spot at Eaglehawk Neck, where vicious dogs used to form a line across the narrow neck to keep prisoners trapped on the peninsula. At the base of the peninsula, you can spend days checking out the former famous prison at Port Arthur. Whether your family is from Australia or not, there will be few more interesting places to spend a family holiday than the rugged Tasman Peninsula.
Northern Territory
There are few places on earth where your family could spend a more interesting holiday than Central Australia, and in particular Northern Territory. Apart from being of incredible beauty and consisting of phenomenal natural formations, such as Uluru and the Olgas, Northern Territory is also considered the spiritual home of Australian Aboriginal people, who make up the oldest continual civilisation in human history. You and your family can spend your holiday learning about one of the world?s most interesting cultures, and your kids are sure to be entranced by the Dreamtime stories of the land and its creation.
