2012 Nicaragua Icaro Film Festival

The Nicaragua Icaro Film Festival 2012 opened yesterday and will run until February 22 with exhibitions, creative workshops and audiovisual competitions in view of the Central American event by the same name.

The festival, which has been held for 15 years, will be led by 26 Nicaraguan films to be evaluated by a jury which includes the Spanish Felix Zurita, the Salvadoran Marcela Zamora and the Nicaraguan Pierre Pierson.

The event is an opportunity to review the current regional status of the films appreciated by who attend these kinds of events, where new generations of filmmakers exhibit their aesthetic trademarks.

During the sessions on film theory, soundtracks, general art direction, screenplay and editing, will be debated, along with new trends in filmmaking.

Possibilities opened up by new communication technologies are also on the table, from greater media access for filmmakers to screen experimental and independent works.

At the History Institute of Nicaragua and Central America, from the Central American University, the latest works of regional filmmakers can be seen this weekend through short feature films, documentaries and cartoons.
